Best Perforated Metal Examples of 2023

What do a grammar school, train station, hospital, luxury jewellers, and KFC restaurants have in common? They’ve all successfully used Arrow Metal perforated metal solutions to help achieve project cost and design goals in 2023. Here’s a closer look at these perforated metal examples and others from this year’s portfolio for ideas and specification inspiration ahead of 2024.

Best Perforated Metal Examples 2023: Public & Private Sector Projects

Our pick of 2023 projects from around Australia showcases the diversity of perforated metal across different sectors, from private schools and hospitals to public sector transport, leisure, high-end retail, and household brands.

Perforated metal’s customisable aesthetics and functionality are some of its biggest advantages compared to other architectural materials, making it a popular and cost-effective choice for a wide range of building and design uses.

Education Projects

Architects are learning perforated metal’s benefits for school projects, especially for cost-effective sun-shading to make classrooms more comfortable. For Oxford Falls Grammar School’s prestigious new campus, we manufactured large-scale screens for classroom windows in a 40% open area, ensuring maximum shading without affecting daylight and views. Panels were also installed for the new connecting bridge and staircase balustrade, all finished in bright red to match school colours.

Healthcare Projects

Nepean Hospital

One of the best perforated metal examples of showing the impact it can make, our project at Nepean Hospital involved a new perforated 3D metal facade in the hospital’s distinctive blue brand colour. Installed at the entrance, parking, and loading areas, the perforated panels highlight crucial areas of the building to patients, staff, and visitors, as well as provide natural light and ventilation.

Public Transport Projects

Unanderra Station

Our latest project under the NSW Government’s Transport for Access Program, the makeover of Unanderra train station included a new perforated metal pedestrian bridge, canopies, and stairs to make it easier and safer for commuters to reach platforms. What makes the Unanderra project so special is the involvement of Coomaditchie United Aboriginal Corporation and local designers to include Aboriginal themes throughout the station. We customised a traditional round perforated metal pattern to fit the specific design requirements, resulting in a modern transport hub that connects passengers to nature.

Retail Brand Projects

Sarah & Sebastian Jewellery

Sarah & Sebastian’s first-ever Australian mall store required beautiful high-end architecture to match the luxury jewellery. We manufactured a bespoke perforated metal ceiling punched in one of our exclusive large-scale honeycomb designs, creating a delicate shimmering veil over the freestanding pavilion store in Chadstone. The hexagon ceiling was the perfect finishing accessory for the brand’s personalised jewellery experience, complementing the polished and mirrored aesthetic.

Leisure Projects

Hurlstone Park

How do you ensure many people can use a new public park pavilion at once? By building it in a Y-shape! The clever form of Hurlstone Park’s new community space maximises accessibility via its different sides, whilst the perforated metal facade and roof panels are the ideal cost-effective cover, providing shade and weather protection along with natural light and ventilation, ticking the tender boxes for this public sector project.

Private Residential Projects

Chatswood Residential Balcony

It’s not just commercial projects that successfully used perforated metal in 2023. Our stunning home renovation project in Chatswood used perforated brass as balustrade for a balcony, creating a decadent and luxurious statement exterior that will beautifully weather over time. Unperforated margins on each panel added an extra design element, complementing the shape of the balcony’s wooden railing and pillars.
