About this project

School Link Bridge, Meriden Campus Upgrade

A new perforated metal school link bridge is seamlessly connecting past and present at Meriden School in Strathfield, Sydney, creating a cohesive campus despite its modern upgrade.

Solving the challenge of how to connect contrasting architecture while ensuring safe student movement, the new school link bridge joins the new Design & Creative Arts space to older school buildings.

Made with Arrow Metal perforated aluminium panels, the bridge is part of a multimillion-dollar investment that also includes a new Social Science building.

School Link Bridge Bridges the Gap Between Old and New Style

Bridge design for the Meriden School project was critical to ensuring the new buildings felt visually integrated, as well as achieving safety, protection and accessibility goals.

Arrow Metal perforated metal in pattern P2320, specified in 4mm aluminium panels, provided the strength, protection and visual impact needed. A contemporary mix of small, medium and large round perforations for privacy, weather protection and airflow, P2320 works with both the sculptural design of Meriden’s new buildings and the traditional style of its existing campus, all without adding any visual bulk.

As a finishing touch, we powder-coated the panels in Dulux Duratec Electro Dark Bronze Kinetic to match the Design & Creative Arts building’s bronze fin facade and the brick architecture around the campus.

Perforated Metal for School Projects: More Examples

Meriden School isn’t the first time Arrow Metal perforated metal has been used to unite educational buildings.

At Oxford Falls Grammar in Sydney, its new multimillion-dollar campus is also linked to old buildings using perforated metal, with bright red perforated panels used for a bridge between campuses as well as the new building’s facade, balconies and staircase balustrades.

While over at Pittwater House in Sydney, perforated panels in school colours are a cost-effective way to upgrade existing architecture. Used for walkway screens, balconies and to cover over old facades, the panels were a quick solution to modernise the campus without affecting school learning.
