About this project

Brass Screens, Petersham Station

Merging historic architecture with newer neighbouring buildings is always a challenge. But adding simple brass screens to Petersham Station has ensured the perfect blend of past and present.

The original ornate station building at heritage-listed Petersham Station, which opened in 1857, features a modern extension. Aesthetically simple compared to the elaborate surrounding architecture, the additional building now has a protective vintage touch, with Arrow Metal brass screens installed across the windows.

How Brass Screens Blend Old With New

Collaborating with project contractors Sabertooth Fabrications, our brass woven wire mesh in double-weave style WOB-9516D was the ideal solution to tie Petersham Station’s buildings together, adding heritage charm and elegance that complements the late Victorian architecture without affecting the station’s visual appeal.

Brass mesh is a cost-effective choice for all types of heritage projects and renovations involving original architecture. It instantly creates a traditional aesthetic for interiors and exteriors, which, thanks to the metal’s natural oxidisation, only gets better with age.

We stock all types of brass mesh suitable for brass screens, interior features, and hospitality fitouts, in various styles including single and double weave, and tight and open mesh. One of our newest additions is WOB-RIB6 – a thick, basket-weave flat design ideal for bold and heavy-duty styling.

Brass Screens: Project Inspiration

Petersham Station is one of many heritage buildings, restoration, and conservation works that have relied on our brass screens for crucial renovations. At the heritage-listed Queen Victoria Building in Sydney’s CBD, our brass mesh forms the lift cages, giving shoppers a journey into the past. Whilst over at St Paul’s Church in Armidale, our brass mesh protects the beautiful restored stained glass windows.

It has also been used to add vintage appeal to more modern developments – including Moorebank Sports Club.
