Moorebank Sports Club has scored its goal of a game-changing renovation, using our decorative brass mesh to transform its entrance, front reception, and gaming desk.
The $6m refresh is the biggest in the club’s history since it opened its doors 30 years ago. Located near Holsworthy Army Barracks, almost every area of the beloved Hammondville venue – affectionately known as ‘Sporties’ – has been upgraded, from the sports bar and TAB to the gaming room and bistro.
With a set concept for the refresh, including a connection to the past and physical surroundings, the choice of materials was crucial to achieving the architectural vision of a state-of-the-art club that pays homage to its community and local military roots.
Moorebank Sports Club’s new look emphasised strong, organic, and tactile materials, including timber, marble, and bronze. Our decorative brass wire mesh was the perfect addition to complete the line-up, adding a vintage edge and sense of nostalgia.
Working with project contractors Beckton Joinery, we recommended brass wire mesh profiles WOB-4716 and WOB-9516D for use in the club’s various areas.

In the entrance and reception, the wire mesh was for three crucial locations: Over a large-scale tree mural, mirrored wall, and across the lighting of the front desk. WOB-9516D decorative brass mesh was the ideal material solution for these installations. A double wire mesh with a large open area percentage, the classic vintage style complements the military-style aesthetic and the timber, mirror, and marble entrance fixtures.

Over in the gaming area, brass wire mesh in profile WOB-4716 was the right play to wrap around the lit welcome desk. A tightly woven yet transparent mesh, it allows light to shine through offering a full, protected view of the historic items on display.
The finished result is exactly on brief, ensuring Moorebank Sports Club is a community leisure institution that’s fit for the future.
Our decorative brass mesh is also a key feature of other iconic establishments. In Sydney CBD, our brass wire mesh, installed in the lift cages and interiors of the historic Queen Victoria Building, elevates the shopping experience.
It’s also protecting the beautiful stained glass windows at St Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Armidale – a significant conservation project. These projects showcase the versatility, strength, and richness of brass mesh for all types of design applications.
We have decorative brass wire mesh in various open area percentages and wire thicknesses to suit project specifications. All mesh is available in rolls or panels.
