About this project
With an enviable location on the edge of Cooks River parklands, there’s never-ending love for the views from Canterbury’s new Infinity apartments, achieved through the use of a unique metal shutter facade by Arrow Metal.
Maximising the breath-taking outlook from the stunning riverfront apartment block was high on the architecture agenda. Floor to ceiling glass windows are a feature of the 85 one and two-bedroom boutique apartments.
But this presented architects Chanine Design (CDArchitects) with the challenge of how to shield residents from sun glare and offer privacy, without compromising the views or the striking semi-circular building design.
Metal shutter facade: Modern residential solution
Some of the 500 perforated panels are folded flat, others are folded in a zig-zag design and some have a combination of both.
Each panel was precisely perforated and engineered to fold exactly as designed on installation, to achieve the vision of a simple architectural ‘podium’ form veiled with a perforated metal fixed and operable bi-fold screen system.
The panels were powder-coated post-manufacture in different colours to create contrast and visual interest.
Perforated metal delicate in design
The interiors of each apartment are designed to complement the imaginative exterior, with the metal shutter facade key to maximising the sense of space and light for residents.
Intricate in design and perforation, the folded facade doesn’t detract attention but creates a delicate curtain effect over the expansive windows.
A landmark for Canterbury’s redevelopment
Infinity is a landmark for the upcoming renewal of Canterbury Town Centre and its Riverfront Precinct, a new village hub which will boast retail, café and entertainment venues.
Located near to Canterbury train station, shops and aquatic centre, Infinity’s central location combines all the culture and amenities of an urban lifestyle with beautiful waterfront living.
Residents can enjoy the views from their expansive balconies or seek sanctuary in its private oasis garden complete with seating and landscaped greenery
