Wire mesh facade and architecture – latest trends

Wire mesh facade and architecture are the hottest metal trends of the moment. From a woodland theatre in London to a workshop space, wire mesh has netted a top spot as architects increasingly use it as a focal feature on brand new buildings around the world.

Here are three of our favourite projects, completed in the past few months, which use wire mesh facade:

Iron Maiden House, Sydney, by CplusC

Wire mesh is growing in popularity especially at this residential home in Sydney, where it has been used as trellis and an architectural feature.

Architects CplusC delivered on the client’s brief of an ‘inside-outside’ house. The use of wire mesh makes it wonderfully open and transparent, flooding the home with natural light and emphasising the sense of space whilst complementing the natural materials that make the house a contemporary home. This unique house is shortlisted in the 2018 World Architecture Festival and Houses Awards.

Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park, London by Reed Watts

If you go down to the woods in London you’re in for a playful treat. Regent’s Park historic open-air theatre is home to incredible performances every Summer. And now, for the first time in its history, all production facilities are now on-site with the opening of a new rehearsal building by architects Reed Watts.

The wire mesh facade featured on part of the building acts as a climbing frame for plants, a natural extension of the unique and spectacular environment.

LEAP Headquarters, Mexico, by LEAP

If you’re an architecture firm then there’s no one better than yourself to design a new office pad. And Mexico architects LEAP have really jumped onto the wire mesh trend with their brand new HQ.

Described as a ‘black metallic box in a backyard’, black metal mesh surrounds the architecture workshop where all projects are carried out. The mesh allows light to filter through, making it a wonderfully transparent, yet private creative space.
