Retail Store Design Tips: Best-selling metal
Did you know that metal products are a best-seller for many high street and luxury stores? Retailers are now using their metal to capture shopper attention, creating eye-catching entrances, wow-factor windows and dazzling displays using perforated metal or woven. Check out our top retail store design tips and discover how metal can help maximise sales:
Retail store design tips 1: Make an entrance
Getting customers through the door is every retailer’s goal, and there’s no better way to achieve this than with spectacular entrance and window display that tempts shoppers to discover more.
Luxury jewellers Golston made sure the entrance of its new Sydney store was a sparkling reflection of the brand, using Arrow Metal brass-effect golden coating perforated metal to adorn its windows.
The Arrow Metal team worked with project designers Loopcreative to bring the studio’s ‘lightbox’ window concept to life, giving Golston’s fine custom jewellery just the right light level to shine.
Wire mesh was also used to capture attention at an Adidas pop up in London. Design4Retail used wire mesh in the windows and interior, creating a ‘modern, urban environment’ for the brand’s new hoodie.

And we also love the use of perforated metal at the Paco Rabanne store in Paris. OFFICE KGDVS used perforated metal throughout the window and interior to highlight and conceal the merchandise, in tribute to the label’s iconic designs.

Retail store design tips 2: Perfect product displays
Every brand has its own story, and visual merchandising helps to tell it. Product display is a vital chapter, but it’s essential that a retail display enhances and elevates the merchandise as the focus of attention.
The Acne store in Los Angeles uses perforated metal to great effect. It’s a heavy feature of the store, but it’s the clothing you notice, complemented by the minimalist metal design, thanks to Bozarth Fornell’s design.

Perforated metal can also be used for merchandise of a much smaller scale, thanks the sheer scope and sizes of perforation design.
When Pandora needed retail displays for the launch of its brand new DO collection, the Arrow Metal team ensured the beautiful jewellery was the striking centrepiece.
Working closely with Jay Productions and Events, we created metal display stands, intricately perforated to reflect the delicate design of every piece.
Retail store design tips 3: Room to move
Customers need to feel comfortable, with space to browse, move around and consider a purchase. Wire mesh is a brilliant metal for this purpose. Because it’s so open, it instantly makes things less busy in the retail environment.
And when it’s used to display key pieces, it’s a striking sales pitch. The Camper store in Tokyo by Schemata Architects does this perfectly, using wire mesh to encase the stock and showcase it at the same time.
